Our Programs
One-on-One Daily Tutoring Time
During our One-on-One Daily Tutoring Time: "Each day our volunteer tutors determine what homework and/or learning needs their assigned student needs to work on. Then they work with that student in a supportive and positive way to assist the student if and as needed to accomplish his or her daily task.
Several times a week, a volunteer reads a book to a group of students. Once read, she asks students a series of questions to confirm they understood what they heard. It also engages them in an intellectual group activity that builds teamwork, confidence speaking in public, and promotes good comprehension and synthesis– all while have fun.
Shared Reading
Every child needs to run around, let off steam, and just have fun together. So, each Friday our student’s spend time outside, as we are fortunate to have a fenced in basketball court across the street. After a healthy snack, they grab basketballs, tennis rackets, frisbees, jump ropes and head for the front door. Happy and relaxed after playtime together, they are ready to return for reading time.
